North Coast Education Service offers a useful selection of courses developed by Northcoast Tutoring Services and designed to provide that extra "boost" to your, or your child's education. Select from reading, math, English, and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. All coursed are taught at Solon High School. Your time will be well-spent regardless of the course you choose.
Basic Reading – 4 Classes for Grades K-12
Real-Life Math Skills – 4 Classes for Grades K-12
Perk Up Your English – 1 Class for Adults and Mature Teens
Life Skills Math – 1 Class for Adults and Mature Teens
English as a Second Language (ESL) – 3 Classes for Adults and Mature Teens

Basic Reading (K-12)
Everyone can read better. Improve basic reading skills using RICHARDS READ SYSTEMATIC PHONICS, a unique research-based, proven learning approach that adjusts to individual learning styles. This class is for your students if they struggle with word attack, comprehension and spelling skills. Fee includes all materials.
While these classes are not Proficiency Test Preparation courses, they will build basic skills and improve test taking abilities.

1+1=3 Develop Usable Real-life Math Skills (K-12)
Learn the facts! Solve word problems. This affordable and convenient evening class will help your students learn or improve math skills - from counting and place value to problem-solving and test-taking strategies. Multi-sensory, hands-on learning techniques make learning fun! Class content is research-based and follows Ohio Department of Education standards. Classes prepare students for the OAT and are approved for learning differences.
All students should bring a willingness to try, a positive attitude, and pencils and paper.
Grades K to 2nd — Explore counting, place value, addition, and subtraction.
Grades 3rd to 5th — Multiplication and division.
Grades 6th to 8th — Fractions, decimals, percents, ratio, proportion, and word problems for the OAT.
Grades 9th to 12th — Fractions, decimals, percents, ratio, word problems for OAT.

Perk-up Your English! for Adults & Mature Teens
Spelling & Reading Comprehension – Can’t spell? Can’t remember what you read? Have to reread information? Are you a slow reader? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this course is for you. Using this unique approach you can improve both your spelling and reading at the same time.

Life Skills Math! for Adults & Mature Teens
Using real life math examples and improve your math skills. Balance a checkbook, learn to measure carpeting for a room, understand interest rates, budgets, measurement (fractions) and much more.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) for Adults & Mature Teens
A unique and successful approach to ESL learning using RICHARDS READ Systematic Language (For adults and mature teenagers only)
Beginning ESL Course • For students with little background in English. Develop basic communication skills for speaking, listening (understanding the spoken language), reading, and writing. Build practical vocabulary for everyday situations like work, housing, health care, emergencies, and food. Beginning ESL students learn basic English grammar.

Intermediate ESL Course • For students with some background in English. This class will help students master grammar skills, verb tenses, and other areas of grammar based upon the needs of the students. Students will work on both conversation and written skills.

Advanced ESL Course • For students who understand spoken English at normal (fast) speeds. Class content varies, depending upon the needs of the students. This class will increase students’ fluency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students work on “fine-tuning” their language skills.
