COMING THIS SCHOOL YEAR…THE NEW SAT!

For years, high school students have spent countless hours preparing for the SAT and the ACT tests. These tests are required by colleges and universities as part of determining whether a student will be admitted to their school. Some schools require one or the other, while a few require both. These cumulative tests asses a student’s knowledge in many subjects, but focus highly on reading, writing and math.


Preparing for these exams can be an enduring process for some teens. Some schools offer practice tests as part of their curriculum, but many students work on their own to prepare for the exams. There are dozens of SAT test prep programs, manuals, and study guides currently available…and now everything has to change.


So, what changes can your student expect to see on the new SAT? How does it differ from the old version?

Whether you are a teacher, a parent, or a students, there are bound to be some butterflies when you hear acronyms like SAT, ACT, PRAXIS, PARCC, OAA, etc. Generally, a little bit of nervousness is good – it is your body’s way of telling you that this is important to you and you want to succeed.

In 2012, the state of Ohio began the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program (JPSN). This program uses tax dollars to allow students with learning disabilities to receive services from an Ohio Department of Education approved provider. North Coast Tutoring Services has been a provider to the Jon Peterson Scholarship since its inception. We provide academic, speech occupational therapy, transition services, behavior services to students according to the needs listed on their IEP. The scholarship year runs from July 1 – June 30. North Coast offers rolling admission until March 10th of the current Scholarship year for new applicants and provider transfers within the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship and the Autism Scholarship.
