Did you know that some teachers will spend nearly four weeks in the fall helping students catch up on what they forgot over the summer? That is because so few students actively practice their academic skills while on vacation. Yes, students normally get assigned summer reading and for some, that is enough. But so many students could really benefit from that extra time.

THIS SUMMER, CONSIDER ENROLLING YOUR STUDENT IN A NORTH COAST EDUCATION SERVICES SUMMER CLASS!

Conveniently located at Lakeland Community College, we offer summer classes for K-12 students taught by professional North Coast tutors. All classes run once a week for nine weeks. Just that one hour exposure each week can make a noticeable difference.

We offer classes in reading, math, and ACT prep. Our reading and math classes are taught using the Richards Learning Systems ® program and the Real Life Ma+h program. These multi-sensory, systematic programs are the same programs we offer for our in-home tutoring. With lots of manipulatives and step-by-step approaches, our programs have been proven effective in both children and adults – including those with learning differences. We also offer reviews for higher level math courses.

Our ACT prep class is designed to cover both content and test-taking techniques. We cover English, higher levels of math (through Trig), essay writing, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills. The course covers all subject areas of the ACT and even touches on strategies to reduce test taking anxiety.

This week, I will be presenting a four-part series on test taking anxiety. Be sure to check back each day for the next installment. Or, if you’d rather, subscribe to our blog on the sidebar and have the next post delivered right to your inbox. Happy reading! Preparing for testing season is enough to make anybody nervous. Whether you are a teacher, a parent, or a students, there are bound to be some butterflies when you hear acronyms like SAT, ACT, PRAXIS, PARCC, OAA, etc. Generally, a little bit of nervousness is good – it is your body’s way of telling you that this is important to you and you want to succeed.
