Today is the official launch of
Scholastic’s 2016 Summer Reading Challenge!

This free challenge is designed to promote and engage children in reading.  Students can sign up for free accounts online where they can log the minutes they have read.  (What a great way to log progress with assigned books!)  As students reach milestones, they are awarded with virtual prizes.  Students can also read information about their favorite authors and read exclusive short stories, written just for the reading challenge.

Teachers and educators can also sign up for the free reading challenge.  Scholastic will keep track of the number of minutes read by each school.  Students and teachers can check online to see how their school compares to the rest of the nation.  At the end of the challenge, prizes are awarded to the schools that logged the most minutes.

Parents are encouraged to also log on to the Scholastic website to speak with book experts, explore reading activities, and discover reading lists.  (Our Remarkable Reading Recommendations series is derived from the books on those same book lists.  We are excited to compile our 2016 book list.  In the meantime, you can click here to see our 2015 reading lists.)

So start your engines, sign up, and start reading!
The 2016 Summer Reading Challenge runs from May 9th – September 9th!
