February 27, 2017
Marcus

“I had a thirst to reach out to kids to help them

academically and help them become successful.”

NCES tutor Marcus is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He was born here, raised here, and now proudly resides in Garfield Heights. He earned his B.A. in finance from the University of Toledo and then attended Cleveland State University for his M.A. in Education. For the past six years, Marcus has been an intervention specialist in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, focusing on science courses – including forensic science.

A BACKGROUND OF EDUCATORS

Over the years, Marcus and his family have put together several organizations for kids, including summer camps. “I come from a background of educators.” He started tutoring K-12 students in an independent program shortly after becoming a teacher. Marcus’ favorite subject in school was biology and now his primary tutoring subjects are math and the sciences.

A DEDICATED TEACHER, COACH AND MENTOR

Marcus fondly shared a story about one of his private students, a young man who was planning to attend an Ivy League College. “He was very serious, determined, committed to applying to the Ivy League,” recalled Marcus, “and it made a significant impact on me. I wanted to help him and other students build character to be successful and productive citizens in life.”

In addition to teaching, Marcus enjoys helping his students outside of the classroom. He volunteers at various athletic camps and also coaches basketball, football, and track. Marcus enjoys coaching and mentoring young students, assisting with character building and improving developmental skills.

“THE STAFF IS PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS.”

“I enjoy tutoring and working with NCES,” adds Marcus. “I was brought to NCES to reach out to all kids, including those with disabilities and from different backgrounds, and I love the experience.” Marcus has worked with students in all of our programs – private tutoring, Home Instruction, and special education scholarship students. The variety of students has been both challenging and fun.

Marcus said that his favorite thing about working with North Coast is the front office. “Everyone is so nice and so sweet, good people with fun personalities. The staff is passionate about their students and their work to make our community better.”

In his spare time, Marcus is an avid reader who enjoys the arts. He is passionate about creative writing, painting, and travel. He also loves to spend time with his family, especially his nieces.
